What sad is.......... they made this look like a "commedy special".... they way how they would edit the responses to make it seem like there was a "punchline"

I wonder who is going to laughing when the UN is making global directives about who will live and die and who will eat or starve........

I wonder who is gonna be laughing then...

Hopefully it will be you and people like you who have prepared. I am still watching it. I think its much less .....ah ridiculing? than I thought it would be. I understand the people at nearly heaven. I thought all of them were great for all of their reasons. I liked the hippy guy in the $50 house. The aryian nation guys freak me a bit.

what I do appreciate is everyone speaks their mind and most accept the thoughts of others. Like the hardware guy and the nearly heaven guy. anyway back to the program.

I downloaded this documentary with a bunch of others quite some time ago and was pleasantly surprised.

It's amusing, but presented without any bias. Louis forms some really good relationships/friendships in with one with some real good people. His questions are honest, of course he asks them in a humourous way looking for humourous outcomes, but he genuinely wants to know what these people think, and why they do what they do.

The ex-hippy man with all the kids and AKs for example who won't pay taxes, the man who lives in the woods and wakes him up to a hearty breakfast of bear meat! :bear_w00t: Even a guy who was in I.T. once, and wanted out for a simpler survivalist life to make preps.

Good souls. They all deserve to be free.

It was better than I thought it would be. Louis treated everyone with respect and, though he had to be entertaining, he clearly wasn't mocking anyone. His humor was more of the self-deprecating sort. The guy he focused on mostly, Mike Caine, was very articulate and presented well. His explanation at the end was fairly well done, too. The host did emphasize how the patriot community and the Aryan community were not one and the same. Every other shot wasn't someone firing a gun or saying something that would sound bizarre to the uninformed, and he gave most of his subjects the chance to genuinely explain themselves. The show clearly cut short a couple of interviews that could have had the average viewer rolling his or her eyes. Overall, I thought it was an unusually sympathetic view of the patriots and the love of freedom and independence. I also liked that they included several subjects making reference to how many Americans who haven't moved up to northern Idaho still believe in those ideals.

Imagine this same material in the hands of, say, Michael Moore!

Finally took the time to sit down and watch this documentary all the way through. I really enjoyed it. Louis was quite entertaining, and it was such an interesting insight into the lives of the different folks he met. I really liked the guy who lived in the "snow hole house" who said "I've got some huckleberry hotcakes and barbecue bear meat waiting for you." What a great guy. It was awesome to see how generous and humble they all seemed to be, inviting Louis and his crew into their homes. Even the aryans were willing to show him around the place, at least.

Well said on all counts, shades.

One thing I found interesting was the bit near the beginning when the first gentleman mentioned that he'd reject the request (or command) to get a chip implanted in his hand or forehead. You could tell that Louis found that a pretty far-fetched idea. This being in the mid-late 90s, that could be expected, but I wonder what his reaction would be today. Nano-technology, RFID chips, and the like are well-known and very real. People already have them in pets, we have them in our passports, and some folks are getting them in their bodies. Not a very big leap when you think of the possibilities of doing away with cash in favor of a "convenient" built-in credit card in your skin. I bet Louis wouldn't have found the idea as unlikely if he were to do the same interview today.

I was talking to a friend about the documentary and I wondered what he would find if he went back now and updated us with all the people he met. Where are they now? Has nearly heaven grown, what about the old hippy and the IT guy. I'd be interested to know what they are all upto.

Yes today's issued passports have smartchips in the middle pages in an effort to prevent passport fraud. However, there has been talk that those chips have the capacity to store fingerprint or retinal data and can be programmed without removing them from the passport.

Retina scans in particular, are one step away from the nightmarish 1984 world we've all read about. When entering the US, I believe you must be electronically fingerprinted now.

Biometric scans are the ultimate in identification, and liable to being the most abused technology on the planet by governments seeking to use it to control their citizenry. I actually went to school with someone who went on to work on biometrics in Sweden.

If say for example you lived in a biometric security based world, in a certain country and they didn't like your race, and had a biometric method of weeding you out. You wouldn't be able to use an ATM, buy anything such as food or petrol, you wouldn't even be able to ride the bus, and rounding you up would be easy.

The temptation for governments to do this is great, and they must be stopped.
